Write better with less
At PILOT, sustainability isn’t a side initiative. It’s a strategic pillar of our business with one clear target: halve our environmental impact by 2030*.
PLUS+ is where that target becomes something you can hold in your hand.
We get there through 4 simple principles:
- Recycled materials : priority use of recycled plastic
- Reduce : less plastic, less volume in packaging
- Refill : change the refill, not the pen
- Reclaim : collecting plastic waste from oceans and rivers
*-50% CO2e emissions by 2030 vs. 2018, target submitted to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi)
Pen range with a minimum of 50% recycled plastic*
Virgin plastic is one of the largest source of impact across a pen’s lifecycle accounting for more than 75% of it. That’s why recycled content is where PLUS+ concentrates its effort.
By using recycled plastic instead of virgin one, PILOT reduces the CO2 impact of its pens by between 26% and 59%, depending on the product (CSR Report 2026, p.18).

Refillable pens
“Don’t bin it. Refill it. ยป
70% of pens PILOT sells in Europe are refillable*
Refilling isn’t just a nice idea, it’s measurable: refilling one FriXion Ball three times instead of buying four single-use pens reduces its CO2 impact by 62%*
Most PILOT writing instruments are designed to be refilled, not replaced: ballpoint pens, rollerballs, whiteboard markers, foutanis pens. When the ink runs out, a refill or cartridge does the job : same pen, same performance, a fraction of the material.

RECLAIM
PILOT’s B2P range includes plastic collected from oceans, rivers and beaches as part of its recycled content.
Since the range launched, more than 1.4 tons of ocean and river plastic have been incorporated into over 10 million B2P pens*
*(CSR Report 2026, p.23)
PLUS+ is our commitment, in the palm of your hand.
We do even more.
Reducing our footprint at the product level is one of four pillars in PILOT’s CSR strategy alongside :
- Minimising the environmental impact of our own operations
- Improving our social commitments to employees and partners
- Contributing positively to the communities where we operate.
Our target: -50% CO2e emissions by 2030.
PLUS+ is how that target reaches you. The rest of it: our factories, our supply chain, our people, is a company-wide effort.
Frequently Asked Questions
PLUS+ products
-
Why did Begreen become PLUS+?
Begreen was PILOT’s eco-designed range name since 2006. We renamed it PLUS+ and changed how we present it: an independent certifier and a percentage now calculated on the total weight of the product, in line with the latest European rules on environmental claims. The products themselves haven’t changed.
-
What does the percentage on a PLUS+ product mean?
It’s the share of recycled plastic in the finished product, calculated on its total weight and verified by an independent certifier. Every PLUS+ product contains at least 50% recycled plastic on this basis.
-
Why do some percentages look lower than before?
We changed our calculation method and our independent certifier. The new percentage is based on the total weight of the finished product, a stricter basis than before. A lower looking number doesn’t mean less recycled plastic, it means a more precise way of measuring it.
-
Is every PILOT pen part of PLUS+?
No. PLUS+ brings together the products that reach the 50% recycled plastic threshold under our current methodology. As certification is updated product by product, a pen can join or leave the range.
-
What does refillable mean in practice?
Most PLUS+ pens, rollerballs and markers are designed to be refilled rather than replaced. When the ink runs low, a refill or cartridge restores the same performance using a fraction of the material a new pen would need.

Where do the figures on this page come from?
They’re sourced from PILOT’s CSR Report 2026 and from our independent recycled plastic certifier. The source is noted next to each figure.
